Appalachian Celebration Exhibit

STATEMENT: RAAC is seeking submissions for the upcoming juried “Appalachian Celebration.”  The Appalachian region of Kentucky is home to many talented painters, photographers, and artisans.  Various folk traditions have developed in the region over the years, and this has led to the development of a unique environment for the arts.  Works for this art exhibit will represent traditional Appalachian folk art in Kentucky.


The exhibition will be featured as part of RAAC’s “Appalachian Celebration” on Thursday, August 9 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at the Richmond Area Arts Center.  Tickets to attend the “Appalachian Celebration” dinner and performance from 6:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. featuring The EKU Bluegrass Ensemble led by Pam Perry (formerly a member of the major label group Wild Rose) are available by contacting the RAAC office.  For more information on this event go to our website


ELIGIBILITY: The exhibit is open to all artists residing in Kentucky and all mediums are welcome.  Entries must be the original works of the artist.  Each artist may submit up to 3 works.  Maximum size for consideration is 48” w X 40”h including frame.  Works must be framed, or gallery wrapped canvas/panel and WIRED.  NO SAWTOOTH hangers well be accepted.  RAAC reserves the right to disqualify works not suitably presented


ENTRY PROCEDURE:  Entries will be accepted by email in the form of a JPEG or on a CD delivered or mailed to the arts center (P.O. Box 515, Richmond, KY 40476).  All entries must include the completed entry form (See submission form). Deadline for entry is July 24th.   Artist notification (via email) by July 26. 


DELIVERY PROCEDURE: Works must be delivered to RAA Center on Monday, August 6 or Tuesday, August 7 between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.  On delivery all works must be labeled on the back of the work with artist name and title of work.


PICKUP PROCEDURE: No early removal of artwork. All works must be picked up from the center on October 1st or Oct. 2 between the center’s business hours.  Works not picked up by October 5th become the property of RAAC.


SALES COMMISION: The Richmond Area Arts Center is open M-F to the public and hosts special events at other days and times.  Every effort is made to promote sales of artist’s works.  RAAC will retain 33% commission from all individual sales throughout the duration of the exhibition.


JURIED PANEL:  This RAAC juried exhibition will consist of a panel from the council board members.  Members have varied experience and interest in the visual arts.


ARTIST RECEPTION: An artist reception will be held on Thursday, August 9th at the Richmond Area Arts Center from 5:30-6:30 p.m. for the artists, family, and friends.  Richmond Arts Center is located at 399 W. Water St, Richmond, KY. 40475.

August 6th and 7th -                 Delivery of work to center

August 10th-Sept.28th  -            Exhibition open and free to public during center’s business days and hours.  

Sept. 28 -                                  Closing of exhibition

Oct. 1 & Oct. 2 -                      Pickup of works
